Welcome to 2025!

I’d like to start this post by extending my warmest wishes to everyone on the arrival of the new year, and yet again thank you all for supporting KLP Publishing throughout 2024. Happy New Year!

The real business though, is to provide a loose preview of what’s in store from us over the next 12 months. I’m going to present things in no particular order, other than certainty of publication, and with the inevitable caveat that nothing here is set in stone. Our latest release, Building the Hasegawa Ki-61-I Tei Hien in 1/32 Scale, teetered on the brink of falling on either side of the date line, but we managed to just sneak it in as the last release for 2024. Phew!

Moving into 2025, we have a sequence of titles that represent the first four books we’ll publish in the year, with the exact order to be decided.

First cab off the rank is Gary Boxall‘s twin builds of the Wingnut Wings 1/32 Fokker D.VII kit:

As well as the main build featured on the cover, Gary also builds a post-war Dutch version using decals from Dutch Decals.

Next up is Geoff Coughlin‘s build of the Tamiya 1/48 F-4B kit:

Next, Chuck Sawyer returns with his build of the Tamiya 1/32 F-16:

And finally, Gary is back again with his build of the Tamiya 1/48 F-35B in a landing configuration:

So, that’s the first four builds of the year out of the way, but there will be much more than that! One that I’m quite excited about is Nat Wale Plaia’s build of the HK Models A-20G in 1/32 scale:

On top of that, there’s a massive Skyraider project from Bill Hollis, Jeremy Moore’s Special Hobby Yak-9T, and potentially a Border Lancaster. There are always projects in negotiation and development, so I’m sure this list will grow and change as the year progresses.

Facebook Fiasco

As many of you will be aware, yesterday marked the third birthday of Building the Revell Me 262B-1/U1 Nachtjäger in 1/32 Scale, and for the rest of this week, it has been discounted to only 12 Australian dollars. We do this pretty regularly with all our titles, and the website automatically uploads these announcements to Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.

Within seconds of that happening yesterday, Facebook removed the post from both my KLP Publishing and personal accounts, citing it as spam:

Subsequent attempts to post this announcement manually all met with the same fate. On each occasion, I sought to have the decision reviewed, but of course, there’s no one home but robots at Facebook HQ, so I’m not expecting a response at all, let alone one adjudged in my favour. That was certainly the case when this exact situation occurred back in August!

After a few more tries, some further testing, and the kind assistance of Les Applebee, I was able to determine that Facebook’s dopey AI-driven algorithms were being triggered by the the word “Nachtjäger” in both the title and description. This is simply a German word that means “nightfighter”. Remove the word, and the posts get through. That’s bad enough by itself, but to then cite the reason for removing the post as “spam” is utterly ludicrous. But hey, we have to play the game by their rules, as stupid, ambiguous, arbitrary and inconsistent as they are.

So with Facebook’s capricious application of its own “Community Standards”, I can no longer rely on it as a predictable marketing platform for KLP Publishing—though I will obviously continue to post there as normal, to the extent that the algorithms don’t interfere. But here’s the important bit, and the thrust of this post:

The best way to get news about what we’re doing is directly, via an email subscription to our blog. This is free from the vagaries and vicissitudes of social media algorithms, and the corporate mandates that drive them. So if you’re reading this, but are not a subscriber, I would greatly appreciate it if you could use the simple form below and sign up.

Many thanks for reading this far, and thank you all for your continued support!

KLP Website Security

Due to the escalating number of fake orders we’ve been experiencing in recent weeks, I’ve just implemented a new prevention measure that I’m hoping will help curb, or at least reduce, the problem. The reason I’m communicating this change publicly is that there is a risk of this generating false positives, meaning that legitimate orders may get blocked if they should inadvertently match the criteria I have set. If you should find yourself in that situation, where you’re trying to place an order but receive a message to the effect of “Email address is blacklisted”, please contact me immediately and we’ll sort it out. Not only will this help ensure that you’re able to place an order successfully, but it will also help me fine-tune this new security measure to reduce further false positives.

Stay tuned for more positive news as work on our new Ki-61 book continues!
